Glass Spider Fittings
Glass spider fittings are commonly used in the building industry. They are also known as spider castings. Spider fittings are a component used for connecting the bolt to mount the glass on:
- Posts
- Walls
- Fins
- Other structural substrates
Primarily, they are classified into 2 categories which are the point fix spider fittings and fin spider fittings. They also come in two finishes.
What are the Available Sizes of Glass Spider Fittings?
There are different types of glass spider casting fittings based on their measurement. The main types and their sizes include:
150 Type – 150 type fittings have about 150mm of size. They are quite small. You can use them for double glazing, canopy, etc.
120 & 160 Types – These fitting types are 120mm and 160mm in size. They are commonly used for guard bars and handrails.
200 Type – 200 fitting has 200mm size. They are available in six different types with different weights. Also, they are used for canopies and glass areas that range from 1.5㎡ to 1.8㎡.
250 Types – 250 fittings are 250mm in size. They are the most used type of spider fitting since they have high safety and strong bearing capacity. You can use them for glass areas that are smaller than 3.0㎡. These types of fittings also come in 6 different types and in various weights.
300 Type – 300 type fittings are 300mm in size. They have a large size. Glass areas that are more than 3.0㎡ can use 300 type fittings.
What are the Glass Spider Casting Fittings Made of?
Stainless steel is the ideal investment casting material for manufacturing spider fittings due to its:
- resistance to corrosion
- flexibility
- strength
Unlike iron or steel castings that will corrode when exposed to air for an extended period of time, stainless steel will not corrode. As a result, stainless steel is the best material since it can withstand dew, rain, air, and other elements.
To produce spider fittings, we use different grades of stainless steel such as:
316 – 316 grades have excellent resistance to heating, oxidation, and corrosion. It is also resistant to salt water, chemical-based environments, chloride, etc.
304 – 304 stainless steel is resistant to oxidation and corrosion. It is also durable.
2205 Duplex – 2205 duplex stainless steel is the highest grade suitable for investment casting. It has higher yield strength and tensile strength than 316 and 304 grades. If you are looking for the most durable, this grade is the ideal option. 2205 has also excellent resistance to pitting, chloride stress, and other corrosion in chloride-based environments.
What are the Available Arm Configurations of the Spider Casting Fittings?
We offer spider fittings in:
- 1-arm configurations
- 2-arm configurations
- 3-arm configurations
- 4-arm configurations
What are the Spider Fittings Types You Offer?
We can manufacture various types of spider fittings including:
- 4-way spider fittings
- 3-way spider fittings
- 180° 2-way spider fittings
- 90° 2-way spider fittings
- short and long single spider fittings
How are the Glass Spider Castings Made?
Glass spider castings are produced through investment casting. Usually, the Silica Sol Casting process is used. Below are the processes of producing spider fittings.
- Making mold
- Wax injection
- Coating
- Drying
- Melting wax
- Pouring of liquid steel
- Cooling
- Remove coating
- Shot blasting
What are the Advantages of Investment Casting?
With investment casting, the spider fittings can achieve a size accuracy ranging from CT5 to CT6. Ra6.3 surface finish is also possible in stainless steel investment casting.
There are many different types of spider fittings including 1-way, 2-way, 3-way, and 4-way spider fittings. And the only process to produce that is stainless steel casting. Stainless steel casting uses the workforce of molds. And that can’t be replaced by other production processes.
Compared to other processes, stainless steel casting is better at controlling the quality and keeping consistency in high production efficiency.
Why Choose Ucasting?
Ucasting offers a wide range of high-quality spider fittings. We can also deliver them to customers around the world.
Additionally, we are capable of customizing them to your exact specifications. Custom stainless steel grade is accepted. We also have control over the dimensional tolerance of the spider fittings.
Ucasting uses automatic molds for casting the spider fittings. And that will result in shorter lead time and saving costs.
We also provide value-added services such as machining, mirror polishing, and more.
