Investment Casting Process

Investment Casting Process

Ucasting is equipped with the most advanced technology. This capability allows us to perform the investment casting process in a wide range of shapes and dimensions.

We can produce excellent investment casting in steel, stainless steel, brass, and other metal alloys. Every investment casting can be made according to your material specifications and compositions.

In this process, we conducted quality control to ensure its best quality. Here are the entire steps of the investment casting process at Ucasting:

Pattern Making

To start the investment casting, tool making is the first step to gaining precision products. The pattern is created from wax. By using injection molding, the pattern will then be poured into a die, carved by hand, or printed.

Mounting the Wax Pattern

We will create a wax pattern when a pair of casting patterns is done. The wax pattern is created by injecting the wax into the pattern. This can make a product with the same dimensions. To achieve more wax patterns, we will just repeat the procedure. After that, we will assemble it onto the sprue. Lastly, the pattern assemblies will be dried at room temperature.

Creating Mold Shell

To create the mold shell, the pattern assembly should be soaked into a slurry ceramic and covered with stubborn material. The mold shell achieves a certain strength and thickness by repeating the process several times. It is then dried in atmospherically-controlled areas.

Wax Removal

Firstly, the wax pattern should be removed, so the material will be poured into the molded shell. It can be done by heating the wax by steaming it or using the oven. Then the liquid wax will pour out to create a new wax pattern.

Casting

Casting is the main step in the investment casting process. After removing the wax, we will first heat the steel ingot to melt and pour it into the sprue. Then, it is cooled at room temperature.

Knock Out Operation

After the ceramic shell is broken, the individual investment casting will be cut from the sprue. The excess metal will be removed from the casting body using grinding.

Heat Treatment

We conduct heat treatment to achieve the mechanical characteristics of the castings. This process includes tempering, normalizing, hardening, carburizing, and annealing.

Sand Blasting

Sandblasting gives the investment casting a better surface finish and doesn’t have any scales.

Other Surface Treatments

Casting products are dipped into anti-rust oil or water to achieve excellent rust resistance. At Ucasting, we perform different surface treatments for every investment casting, such as galvanizing, paint spraying, etc.

Inspection

Ucasting conducts meticulous inspections to provide quality investment castings. We have a professional engineering team who conducts complete inspections of surface, dimensional, inner defects, and other inspection jobs.

Package

Normally, we use polybags to pack the investment castings and put them in wooden cases. Our investment castings are exported to overseas markets. We ensure to deliver defect-free products to satisfy your needs. Custom package services are available upon request.
